Trader Joe’s Style Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

I have tested Trader Joe's dark chocolate peanut butter cups. And they are really awesome. But nothing beats homemade peanut butter cups when it comes to freshness and quality. I love them because of their creamy texture and salty, sweet peanut butter taste.

Ingredients

Dark Chocolate Coating:

  • 12 oz high-quality dark chocolate 70% cocoa or more

Peanut Butter Filling:

  • ½ cup natural peanut butter unsweetened, creamy
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp sea salt + extra for topping
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional, for added flavor

Instructions

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate

  • Chop dark chocolate into small pieces for even melting.
  • Use a double boiler method: Place a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water. Stir until melted.
  • Alternatively, microwave in short intervals, stirring between each until fully melted.

Step 2: Prepare the Peanut Butter Filling

  • In a bowl, mix peanut butter, powdered sugar, sea salt, and vanilla extract.
  • Stir until smooth and creamy.

Step 3: Assemble the Peanut Butter Cups

  • Line a mini muffin tin with paper liners or use silicone molds.
  • Pour a small amount of melted chocolate into each mold, just enough to coat the bottom.
  • Drop a teaspoon of peanut butter mixture into the center.
  • Cover with another spoonful of melted chocolate to enclose the filling.

Step 4: Chill and Set

  • Sprinkle sea salt on top for extra flavor.
  • Place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes until fully set.

Step 5: Unmold and Serve

  • Once set, remove the peanut butter cups from the liners or molds.
  • Enjoy as is, or drizzle melted chocolate or caramel for an extra touch.

Notes

  • For a sweeter taste, swap dark chocolate with milk chocolate.
  • For a vegan version, use dairy-free dark chocolate and maple syrup instead of powdered sugar.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks at room temperature or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Pair with: Coffee, oat milk, or vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat!
